A 2014 graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College’s Associate of Science program, Sacquitne is beginning his career as an agriculture educator to make an impact on future generations of students.

To recognize Sacquitne’s commitment to agriculture, education and the farming industry, The College has named Sacquitne an Alumni Shining Star this spring.

In 2016, Sacquitne graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Agricultural Studies and a minor in Child, Adult, and Family Services focusing on youth development. He is now enrolled in ISU’s Master of Science in Agricultural Education program, and is working as a teaching assistant during the program and will graduate this May.

“Students at Northeast Iowa Community College benefit directly from the industry experience and expertise of its faculty and staff. The instructors know what the future may hold. After I graduate from the master’s program, I want to teach high school students. Eventually, I would like to return to Northeast Iowa Community College to teach,” Sacquitne expressed.

During his master’s degree program, he will earn his state of Iowa teaching licensure through ISU. Sacquitne’s future academic plans may include a doctorate, but he’s getting excited to jump into the classroom soon.

The graduate was a standout student academically while enrolled at NICC. He was named to the dean’s list every semester and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Sacquitne received the Dollars for Scholarship in fall 2012 and the Northeast Iowa Community College Staff Scholarship in spring 2013.

Sacquitne still helps his dad and brother run their 300-acre family farm near Decorah in his spare time.

“I do have a farm background and that has been beneficial because of where my roots are in agriculture. I want to continue to help people understand agriculture – locally, statewide, nationally and in our world,” he said.

Northeast Iowa Community College’s place in the Calmar area is forever connected to the thousands of students of all ages who enrolled, completed a degree and started bright career futures. NICC alumni have made a powerful impact on local communities and are often connected to one another as family; their success stories honor the College and its mission and purpose. In this spirit, the College honors Alumni Shining Stars during the year to celebrate standout graduates who have transformed their lives and families through their example.
