College Retention Rate

The percentage of all NICC non-concurrent, credit students enrolled in a given fall term who do not graduate and who re-enroll in the subsequent fall term.

Example:

Total Fall 2023 non-concurrent, credit enrollment = 1807
1326 of those did not earn an award in the academic year (retention denominator)
Fall 2024 students who were also enrolled in Fall 2023 = 699 (retention numerator)
Fall 2023 Retention Rate = 699/1326 = 53%

College Persistence Rate

The percentage of all NICC non-concurrent, credit students enrolled in a given fall term who do not graduate and who re-enroll in the subsequent spring term.

Example:

Total Fall 2023 non-concurrent, credit enrollment = 1807
1689 of those did not earn an award in Fall 2023 (persistence denominator)
Spring 2024 students who were also enrolled in Fall 2023 = 1273 (persistence numerator)
Fall 2023 Persistence Rate = 1273/1689 = 75%

College Completion Rate

The percentage of all degree-seeking students who complete their degree within 100% of the allotted/standard program time.

• 2 years for full-time, associate's degree
• 4 years for part-time, associate's degree
• 1 year for full-time diploma or certificate
• 2 years for part-time diploma or certificate

*FT/PT status determined by the student's status in the first term of the program.

Example:

Fall 2020 386 students started an associate's program part-time
Fall 2022 171 students started a certificate or diploma program part-time
Fall 2022 359 students started an associate's program full-time
Fall 2023 139 students started a certificate or diploma program full-time
This "cohort" (or combination of cohorts) has a total of 1,055 students.
By end of Summer 2024, 329 of these students had earned an award.
(44 PT Assoc, 53 PT Cert/Dip, 143 FT Assoc, 89 FT Cert/Dip)
2024 Overall Completion Rate = 329/1055 = 31%
2024 Full-time Completion Rate = (143+89)/(359+139) = 232/498 = 47%
2024 Part-Time Completion Rate = (44+53)/(386+171) = 97/557 = 17%
2024 Associate's Completion Rate = (44+143)/(386+359) = 187/745 = 25%
2024 Certificates and Diplomas Completion Rate = (53+89)/(171+139) = 142/310 = 46%
