Apply

The first step can be the hardest, but you're not alone at Northeast Iowa Community College. Use the steps below to guide you through our admissions process.

Step 1: Application for Admission

Complete and submit your application online. Students interested in receiving college credit, but not pursuing a degree, should review information for non-degree seeking students.

Step 2: Financial Aid and Scholarships

Apply early! Seventy-nine percent of NICC students received some form of financial aid. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to determine your eligibility for federal and college-based aid. Applying for scholarships can significantly reduce your education costs.

Step 3: Transcripts

Contact your high school or high school equivalency diploma (HSED) testing center and all colleges you have previously attended to request an official transcript be sent to the Admissions Office.

Step 4: Course Placement Assessments

To ensure you’re placed in appropriate courses, the college will assess your reading, writing, and math skills using the ACCUPLACER®, ACT®, or ALEKS assessments. Reading and writing scores are valid for three years, while math are valid for two. If you have recent college transcripts showing satisfactory coursework, you might be eligible for a waiver by submitting documentation to the Admissions Office. Schedule the ACCUPLACER® or ALEKS assessment at the nearest NICC location. A photo ID is required for testing, and please plan for approximately three hours to complete the assessment.

Step 5: Registration

Once all the admission steps are complete, you will receive an acceptance packet in the mail along with registration information.

Step 6: Orientation

Attend campus orientation to get your student ID, explore your classrooms, connect with faculty and peers, and complete final enrollment steps!
