ATI TEAS Admission Assessment

All students applying to the Nursing or Production and Companion Animal Veterinary Technician programs at Northeast Iowa Community College are required to complete the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) entrance exam in addition to the courses required for program admission. This exam covers reading, math, science, and language usage. Your score on the TEAS is one measure of academic preparedness considered for acceptance into the program. Scores may be transferred from another institution as long as they meet the NICC criteria and were completed within five years of the student's application date.

Specific criteria for each program entrance exam can be found below.

All students applying to a Nursing program at Northeast Iowa Community College are required to complete the ATI TEAS entrance exam in addition to the courses required for program admission. This exam covers reading, math, science, and language usage. Students must complete the ATI TEAS exam with a minimum composite score of 58.7%.  Scores may be transferred from another institution as long as they meet the NICC criteria and were completed within five years of the student's application date.

Advanced-standing students who are current LPNs can articulate into the sophomore year only after meeting program requirements. Advanced standing students must successfully complete the HESI LPN to ADN Assessment with a minimum score of 850 as an entry requirement to the ADN program.

Students who successfully complete the HESI A2 prior to August 7, 2024 will have their scores accepted.

Assessment Results and Next Steps

Results are available immediately upon completion. Assessment results are also provided to the nursing department at NICC for review and documentation. The nursing department notifies the Admissions Office of students who have completed the assessment.

Retesting 

Students who score below the minimum are allowed to retest. A minimum of 30 days is required before retesting, which will allow the student time to study and prepare. All students applying to the Production and Companion Animal Veterinary Technician program at Northeast Iowa Community College are required to complete the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) entrance exam. This test is designed specifically to assess a student’s preparedness for entering the health science fields. Questions are designed to test the basic academic skills students will need to perform successfully in the areas of reading, math, science, and language usage. Your score on the TEAS is one measure of academic preparedness considered for acceptance into the program. Students must complete the TEAS exam with a minimum composite score of 60% and a minimum reading comprehension of 70%. Scores may be transferred from another institution as long as they meet the NICC criteria and were completed within five years of the student’s application date.

Exam Details

The ATI TEAS test consists of 170 questions that are formatted as multiple choice. This includes 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions. The maximum amount of time allotted for the ATI TEAS is 209 minutes (about 3.5 hours). Each section is timed.

  • Reading (55 minutes - 45 questions): Paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and informational source comprehension.
  • Math (57 minutes - 38 questions): Numbers and operations, algebraic applications, data interpretation and measurement.
  • Science (60 minutes - 50 questions): Biology, Chemistry, Human anatomy & physiology; life Science, earth and physical science and scientific reasoning.
  • English and Language Usage (37 minutes - 37 questions): Grammar and word meanings in context, sentence structure, punctuation and spelling.

Testing Details

Students are encouraged to use the ATI resources to prepare for the test before registering. There are no refunds provided for cancellations or rescheduled exams. Exams may only be rescheduled if the requirements are met. ATI TEAS Exam Rescheduling Policy.

TEAS Exam Registration

The exam will be offered Remote Online only. Students will take the exam from their desired location via an online remote proctor. Registration must be completed at least 24 hours before the test date. Students should review the ATI Quickstart Guide prior to the exam date.

  1. Select the “ATI Remote Proctor - Allied Health” option for the program type.
  2. Select the date range for the desired testing time. Search and select the desired testing time.

**TEAS at ATI exams are scheduled to begin in the Central Time Zone (CST). If you live in a different time zone, please adjust your start time to reflect a central time zone start (Eastern +1, Mountain -1, Pacific -2, Alaska -3, Hawaii -5).

  1. Students will have the option to add study materials to their exam registration cart.
  2. Upon checkout an account will need to be created, or you may sign into an existing account to complete the registration. The exam is $120 to be paid using your debit or credit card at the time of registration.
  3. To have test results sent directly to the College, applicants must select Northeast IA CC Allied Health as the program they are applying to when registering for the exam.

Accommodations

Accommodations may be available to individuals with documented disabilities pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). ATI provides reasonable testing accommodations to candidates whose documented disabilities or other qualifying medical conditions hinder their ability to take the examination under standard conditions. Please be aware that submission of a request for an accommodation does not guarantee testing accommodations. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis considering the information submitted and in accordance with the law.

Requests for accommodations will be processed as quickly as possible. Candidates should allow for a minimum of 30 days for processing, with the understanding that some cases may take longer. Candidates should include all the required documentation (see instructions below for what is required) with their initial request.

To be considered for accommodations, please submit your accommodations request to ATI Test Security at proctor@atitesting.com at least 30 days prior to testing/signing up for a test date.

Assessment Results and Next Steps

Applicants will need to select Northeast Iowa Community College as the program they are applying to when registering for the TEAS. An Official Transcript will then be sent to the college for processing. Applicants who tested at another testing center or who have taken the exam within the last five years will need to pay to have an Official ATI TEAS Transcript sent to the college. Transcripts will not be accepted directly from the applicant.

Retesting

Students who score below the minimum are allowed to retest. For TEAS at ATI exams, there is a 14-day wait period between attempts. You may go ahead and schedule multiple exams, however, there must be fourteen days between each attempt. Remediation materials are provided in the student testing account.
