Understanding Drug Enforcement

This class delves into the critical work of the Dubuque Drug Task Force (DDTF) and the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in our community. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the methods used to investigate drug cases, the prevalent drugs affecting our area, and the signs and symptoms associated with these substances.
Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Updates
Peggy Peterson, IOSHA
This OSHA update focuses on the latest trends, proposed standards and answering your questions. This session is led by the Bureau Chief for Iowa OSHA Consultation, Education, and COOP Programs, Peggy Peterson. Since 1988 she has been a safety enforcement officer, safety and health consultant, senior industrial hygienist, and complaint officer. Her extensive experience and leadership skills have also led her to represent Iowa at national conferences and in key roles such as a team leader in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

When a crisis arises, the first person people look to is the leader. Are you prepared? It will be important to act based on your core values and with emotional intelligence so that you aren’t consumed by the stress, anxiety and reactions of others. Your job as a leader is to provide psychological safety by creating an environment where team members feel comfortable discussing potentially frustrating and stressful situations.

In this comprehensive training session, participants will learn essential response strategies for active shooter or active aggressor situations. The focus will be on the key concepts of Run, Hide, Fight, providing practical guidance on how to react swiftly and effectively during such critical incidents.

As most people spend the majority of their waking hours at work, it’s important to cultivate positive mental health in the workplace. In this session, you will learn about risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns. You’ll leave equipped with brief strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

The cost of a work injury including direct and indirect costs. This discussion covers the prevention of work injuries through hiring practices, training, and basic safety program elements. It also outlines the steps to take when an injury occurs to minimize claim costs and highlights reporting procedures, early intervention and collaboration with medical providers.
Transportation Safety
Justin Smoot, Cottingham & Butler
Safety Management Services Company (SMSC), a division of Cottingham & Butler, Inc. will expand on the regulatory differences between CDL and non-CDL drivers. This session will highlight Drug and Alcohol regulations; Driver Qualification Regulations and Hours-of-Service Regulations. Additionally, SMSC will provide guidance on how to view your company’s DOT roadside inspection history.
