IRS Form 1098-T

Each year Northeast Iowa Community College prepares your IRS statement 1098-T. Once you receive notification that the forms are ready, you may view and print the form from your Self-Service Account. If you have not previously provided your electronic consent, you will need to do so before accessing and viewing the form.

If electronic consent is not received, the 1098-T form will be printed and mailed to the current address on file by the January 31 deadline.

What Is A 1098-T Tax Form and Why Did I Receive It?

The 1098-T form is an annual informational document that all educational institutions are required to prepare for eligible students. It contains information on qualified tuition and related expenses within the calendar year, January through December. The 1098-T tax form is an IRS tax form that lists the amount of qualified tuition and related expenses that you paid or were billed during the previous year by your school. You may be able to deduct some or this entire amount from the income you report on your federal tax return, which may reduce your income tax. Check with a tax advisor to determine which amounts are tax deductible.

If you received a 1098-T tax form, it's because you may be able to receive a tuition and fees deduction or claim an education credit on a 1040 or 1040A Form for qualified tuition or expenses that you paid.

NICC suggests that you access your Self-Service Student Finance Account and print any applicable semester statements to present with your 1098-T form to your tax preparer.

While Northeast Iowa Community College cannot advise on how you should use the form, your tax professional can.
