Partnership on Purpose is one of three programs within the Fountain of Youth’s Partners in Change initiative.
In partnership with the Fountain of Youth organization and the Opportunity Dubuque program, Northeast Iowa Community College recently launched an enhanced mentoring service that offers education and training for students who have experienced poverty and/or have a criminal history.
Through this innovative community partnership, students learn a holistic set of skills focused on the unique barriers they may face in obtaining their education and gainful employment.
Frank Washington, a Partnership on Purpose participant, believes the program is what he needs to reintegrate into the local community and find career success in construction.
“This program will help me communicate with society when I start my career building housing for low-income people. I want to give back to the community,” Frank said.
Another new participant, Linda Nevels, is completing Partnership On Purpose and plans to continue her education in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program at Northeast Iowa Community College.
“Partnership on Purpose has really helped me to become more open-minded and to learn how to communicate better in society. I want to be able to someday give back to my community,” Linda said.
Partnership on Purpose is one of three programs within the Fountain of Youth’s Partners in Change initiative. The community partnerships are designed to fit the situational needs of the organization’s participants. Other Partners in Change programs provide additional career and professional development training, job coaching and support for individuals who wish to start a small business or non-profit organization.
