The teams squared off to begin the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club in Cedar Rapids.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—Kirkwood Community College avenged last year’s season opener loss to the Northeast Iowa Community College Sports Shooting team in a close battle this year, edging out the NICC team 444-434.
The teams squared off to begin the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club in Cedar Rapids.
NICC student athletes competing in the event included Tracer Tollefsrud, of Canton, with the first place competition score of 97; Drew King, of Marshalltown, 86; Alex Digman, Earlville, 84; Zach Schroeder, Elgin, 84; Wilson Ihm, Platteville, Wis., 83; and Alex Zweibohmer, Decorah, 79.
The NICC team is off to a solid start, says head coach Anthony Sisneros. “It’s the start of a new season and even though we came up a little short against Kirkwood, our team scored more points in this competition than the start of our last season. Our student athletes put up some excellent scores and I look forward to watch their progression as the season goes on,” he said.
Male Individual winner Tracer Tollefsrud found it easy to settle in during the competition. “I had a great time participating at the Kirkwood trap range. I'd like to thank everyone who helped to set up the event for a great time,” he said.
Teammate Alex Digman agreed. “This was my first time shooting trap in a competition and I was a tad nervous, but had a great time and I enjoyed participating with my teammates,” Digman said.
The NICC team faces Iowa Lakes Community College next on Saturday, Sept. 18.
