"Simulator Immersion” event will encourage local high school students to enter in-demand, high-paying careers

The Calmar campus event offers opportunities for students, educators and local businesses to connect and learn about the benefits of simulator training to upskill and reskill the area’s workforce.
Northeast Iowa Community College will host a “Simulator Immersion” event on Tuesday, Sept. 28, to provide local high school students with opportunities to experience simulation environments in construction, transportation and energy.
Heavy Equipment and Truck Driving simulators, as well as Virtual Reality headsets, will introduce students to high-paying, in-demand careers in these fields. Employers are also experiencing a skills and labor market shortage in these sectors of the economy.
The Calmar campus event offers opportunities for students, educators and local businesses to connect and learn about the benefits of simulator training to upskill and reskill the area’s workforce. Students may also explore short-term training options through NICC in the areas of advanced manufacturing, construction and transportation.
Iowa Department of Education leaders attending the event include Director Ann Lebo and Administrator Jeremy Varner; also attending will be Deb Durham, Iowa Economic Development executive director, and Iowa Representatives Michael Bergan and Chad Ingels.
