Southeastern edges NICC Cougar Sports Shooting, 462-452

NORTHEAST IOWA—The Southeastern Community College Blackhawks edged out Northeast Iowa Community College’s Cougar Sports Shooting team over the weekend, 462-452.
NICC student-athletes who dueled it out against Southeastern, and female individual scores, included Hailey Elsbernd, Fort Atkinson, 92; Ashley Fischer, of Fort Atkinson, 88; and MaKenzie Wiest, of Cassville, Wis., 41.
Male athletes’ scores were: Austin Snell, Decorah, 95; Tracer Tollefsrud, Canton, Minn., 89; Tristan Lewison, of LeRoy, Minn., 88; Zachary Gronwoldt, Riceville, 88; Ben Schildgen, Dubuque; 86; Colton Hruska, Cresco, 85; Kyle Larson, Cresco, 85; Ty Kenan, Garnavillo, 77; and Nicholas Saeugling, La Motte, 66.
The competition was hosted at Turkey Valley Trap Range in Jackson Junction. The weather proved to be a critical factor in the NICC team’s outcomes in competition, said Head Coach Anthony Sisneros.
“The weather influenced the outcome of the competition versus the Southeastern Blackhawks. Even though we didn’t come away with a win, our student-athletes pushed for every point. We end our conference competitions with a 2-2 record and some individual accomplishments. Now we must prepare for a regional competition and the state championships where we have the ability to do well,” Sisneros said.
NICC athletes agreed. “The wind and the cold were definitely a challenge when it came to hitting birds but overall, I think everyone did well with the conditions that we shot in,” said Tracer Tollefsrud.
“It was a little windy out and a little cold, but we still kept our heads up and shot the best we could,” said Ty Kenan.
“The weather wasn’t the greatest, but everyone did their best and can’t wait for Sparta!” Hailey Elsbernd added.
