NICC hosting 17th Annual Kathryn J. Davis Student Crisis Fundraiser
Wednesday, October 25, 2023
Through a variety of fundraising efforts – a soup and dessert bake-off, pumpkin decorating contest and a virtual silent auction – the events raise between $8-10,000 annually.
Northeast Iowa Community College will host the 17th Annual Kathryn J. Davis Student Crisis Fundraiser this Thursday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Calmar and Peosta campuses. Community members are welcome to attend.
The annual event provides financial support for the Kathryn J. Davis Student Crisis Fund, which was established as emergency aid for students with an immediate crisis that threatens their ability to attend class or progress in their coursework. Currently enrolled students who have school-related expenses are eligible for assistance.
Through a variety of fundraising efforts – a soup and dessert bake-off, pumpkin decorating contest and a virtual silent auction – the events raise between $8-10,000 annually.
Soup and dessert bar samples are $4 for students, $6 for NICC faculty, staff and community members. The Calmar campus event will be held in the Student Center, Cougar Cafe. The Peosta event is in the Main Building, Lower and Upper Atrium areas.
Last year, the Student Crisis Fundraiser raised $9,324 district–wide and assisted 20 NICC students experiencing a crisis. Event organizers report that the College has so far received 22 requests for assistance since the start of the academic year.
Live entertainment is provided at the Calmar campus event by performer Bruce Bearinger, and musician Elizabeth Mary will entertain at the Peosta campus.
